Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Sort each dataset. Find the median, then the medians of the lower and upper halves, excluding the center for an odd count. Mark observations outsideQ1−1.5IQR andQ3+1.5IQR as outliers. Whiskers end at the furthest observed values inside the fences.
IQR=Q3−Q1; fences=Q1−1.5IQR andQ3+1.5IQR
Worked example
For1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,20, median=5, Q1=2.5 andQ3=7.5. IQR=5, so20 lies beyond the upper fence15 and appears as an outlier.
Assumptions and input details
Enter2–200 finite observations per dataset, with magnitude≤1e12. Commas separate values rather than thousands. Quartile conventions differ across software; this tool uses the median-of-halves rule. Outlier flags are descriptive, not proof of a mistake or a statistical significance test.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Enter a list of numbers to calculate mean, median, modes, quartiles, population and sample standard deviation, with a frequency histogram.
Build a frequency table from class intervals and counts. Find relative and cumulative frequencies, a midpoint mean estimate and a histogram that supports unequal class widths.
Calculate a normal probability below, above or between entered values. See standardized z scores, a probability breakdown and a bell curve with the selected region.
