Calculation steps

Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.

    How to calculate

Treat the reference repeat as amplitude one, multiply by the feedback fraction per loop and find the first whole repeat at or below the target level.

    Repeat amplitude=g^n; drop=−20n log10(g); first qualifying loop=ceil(target drop/per-loop drop)

    Worked example

A 50% amplitude feedback loop loses about 6.0206 dB per repeat. With a 0.5 s loop, the tenth repeat is below −60 dB at 5 s after the reference repeat.

    Assumptions and input details

Positive feedback magnitude strictly between 0 and 100%; no filters, modulation, saturation or changing feedback. Time zero is the reference repeat, not the dry source; add an initial delay separately if needed. Output rounds to the first qualifying discrete loop and also shows the continuous exponential crossing. Up to 201 representative rows are shown; omitted intermediate repeats are counted. This is a digital echo model, not a room-reverberation estimate.

    Unit definitions

Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.

    Using this calculator

Can I enter my own problem?

Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.

    Are the results exact?

Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.

    Is my input uploaded?

The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
