Calculation steps

How to calculate
Preserve the entered frame order. Either distribute the remaining usable span into equal internal gaps, or center a group using the entered fixed gap. Add each measured hardware offset to its frame’s left edge.
Equal gap=(wall−2 margins−sum(frame widths))/(frame count−1); hanging position=left edge+entered offset
Worked example
On a 300 cm span with 20 cm side margins and widths 40,50,30 cm, equal gaps are 70 cm. The entered centered hanging points are 40,155 and 265 cm from the wall’s left end.
Assumptions and input details
All positions are horizontal and use the same left-wall datum. A single frame is centered. Hardware offset is entered and may differ from the frame center. The diagram shows frame widths, not picture heights. Vertical placement, multiple hanging points, wire stretch and wall fixings are not modeled. Up to 30 frames. Negative available gaps are rejected.
Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
Choose from 23 length definitions, including explicitly labelled regional measures. Area conversions square the length factor; geometric volumes cube it.
Regional measures are not interchangeable merely because their names look similar. This is a documented selection, not a claim to include every historical unit.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Calculate equal clear compartments and divider positions, or find the greatest compartment count meeting an entered minimum width.
Find real length, drawing length or a scale ratio. Mix length units and compare linear, area and volume scale factors with a size diagram.
Place equally spaced points on a circle. Calculate every coordinate, angular step, adjacent chord and arc length, with a labelled layout.
