How to calculate
Convert the entered common logarithm of Q to a natural logarithm, calculate the Nernst correction and subtract it from standard potential.
E=E°−RT ln(Q)/(nF); ΔG=−nFE; log10 K=nFE°/(RT ln10)
Worked example
At 298.15 K with n=2, E°=1.10 V and Q=100 (log10 Q=2), the correction is about 0.0591593 V and E≈1.0408407 V.
Assumptions and input details
Enter a standard cell potential for a specified balanced reaction direction and the positive integer electron count 1–100. Q is dimensionless and must be formed from activities consistent with that reaction; pure solid/liquid standard states are not inserted as concentrations. Input log10 Q avoids overflow across extreme quotients. Constants R and F use rounded/exact-SI-derived values. Kinetics, electrode overpotential, resistance and actual battery performance are not modeled.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
