Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Use absolute temperatures inside the beta equation and keep electrical dissipation separate from the inferred sensor temperature.
1/TK=1/Tref,K+ln(R/Rref)/β; sensitivity dT/dR=−TK²/(βR)
Worked example
If measured resistance equals reference resistance, calculated temperature equals reference temperature. A 10 kΩ/25°C reference measured at 10 kΩ therefore gives 25°C.
Assumptions and input details
Beta must match the sensor and temperature interval. Output scoped to −100…300°C; no lead resistance, self-heating temperature correction, tolerance, thermal time response or calibration certification. Dissipation is I²R only, not predicted ambient heating.

Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
SI prefixes are explicit: for example, milli means one thousandth, micro one millionth and kilo one thousand. Changing a unit changes the interpretation of the entered number.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Convert Celsius, Fahrenheit, kelvin and Rankine. Distinguish actual temperatures from temperature changes, and compare all four scales in a table.
Find the equivalent resistance of 2–20 ideal resistors in series or parallel. Enter a DC voltage to calculate current, voltage drop and power for every resistor.
Compare unloaded and resistively loaded divider voltage, branch currents and dissipation.
