Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Compute group means and a count-weighted grand mean, then construct the one-factor ANOVA table.
SSbetween=Σnᵢ(meanᵢ−grand)²; SSwithin=ΣΣ(xᵢⱼ−meanᵢ)²; F=MSbetween/MSwithin
Worked example
Groups 1,2,3; 3,4,5; and 5,6,7 have grand mean 4, between SS 24, within SS 6, df 2 and 6, giving F=12.
Assumptions and input details
Use 3–10 uniquely named groups, 2–100 numeric observations each, and at most 500 observations total. Every observation has magnitude at most 1e12. Zero within-group variation makes F undefined, explicitly reported. A normal independent equal-variance error model is needed for standard F inference; this page does not calculate p-values, choose significance, run post-hoc comparisons or establish assumptions.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Compare independent sample means using unequal-variance standard errors, Welch degrees of freedom and a two-sided interval.
Enter a list of numbers to calculate mean, median, modes, quartiles, population and sample standard deviation, with a frequency histogram.
Calculate a two-sided confidence interval for a population mean from summary statistics. Choose Student t with sample SD or z with a known population SD.
