Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Shift edge lines along their outward normals, intersect adjacent lines and validate the resulting convex half-plane boundary.
Shifted edge: n·p=b+d; adjacent shifted lines determine each miter corner
Worked example
A 4 by 2 rectangle offset outward by 0.5 becomes a 5 by 3 mitered rectangle, with area 15. An inset of −0.5 gives area 3.
Assumptions and input details
3–12 strictly convex, non-self-intersecting boundary vertices, with no collinear corners. This fixed-edge miter model rejects collapsed or topology-changing insets and near-parallel edges. Offset corners are sharp intersections, not round joins. Physical cutter side, tool radius, kerf, seam and machine allowances must be chosen separately.
Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
Choose from 23 length definitions, including explicitly labelled regional measures. Area conversions square the length factor; geometric volumes cube it.
Regional measures are not interchangeable merely because their names look similar. This is a documented selection, not a claim to include every historical unit.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Calculate area, perimeter and area centroid from 3–50 ordered vertices of a simple polygon. Inspect an equal-scale outline and a table of edges.
Evaluate a cubic Bezier curve, its tangent and an approximate length from four control points.
Combine axis-aligned rectangles and circles, subtract holes, and calculate a centroid and centroidal second moments of area.
