Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Intersect the combined quadratic pump curve with Hsystem=static+ks Q² in both plumbing configurations.
One pump H=H0−kp Q²; parallel kp,eff=kp/N²; series H0,eff=N H0 and kp,eff=N kp
Worked example
For two pumps with H0=50 m and kp=0.02, system static 10 m and ks=0.01, parallel flow is √(8000/3)≈51.6397779 m³/h and series flow is √1800≈42.4264069 m³/h.
Assumptions and input details
Static head must be below one-pump shutoff so both comparisons have positive operating points. Identical curves, balanced parallel branches and no additional piping losses. No efficiency, NPSH, unstable operation, motor loading or equipment selection.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
