Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Keep gauge and absolute pressures separate; include the supplied losses on the correct side of the compressor.
Ratio=(ambient+gauge boost+outlet drop)/(ambient−inlet drop)
Worked example
100 kPa ambient, 100 kPa gauge boost, 5 kPa inlet drop and 10 kPa outlet drop give ratio 210/95≈2.21052632.
Assumptions and input details
Inlet drop must be below ambient. Pressure ratio alone does not select a compressor or determine flow, efficiency, temperature, surge margin, power or mechanical safety.
Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Convert pressure across SI and other common units. Distinguish absolute and gauge readings using a reference pressure you enter, and compare both in a unit table. Convert an optional list of readings using the same units and pressure reference.
Solve pressure, volume, amount of gas or absolute temperature using PV=nRT. Select explicit units and inspect the substituted equation and equivalent quantities.
Calculate static compression ratio and swept displacement from measured cylinder, chamber, gasket, deck and signed piston volumes.
