Calculation steps

Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.

    How to calculate

Convert the entered effective annual return to its equivalent monthly rate. Apply a withdrawal at the selected time, increase the scheduled amount every twelve months, and cap actual withdrawals at available funds.

    Monthly rate=(1+annual return)^(1/12)−1; end-month balance=opening×(1+rate)−actual withdrawal

    Worked example

With 10000, zero return, no annual increases and 1000 withdrawn monthly, ten withdrawals are funded. An eleventh requested withdrawal cannot be paid.

    Assumptions and input details

This deterministic scenario uses a constant nominal return and entered increases, not market data or a safe withdrawal recommendation. No volatility, sequence risk, fees, tax, lifespan or inflation model is added. The first annual increase applies in month 13. A shortfall means a scheduled withdrawal was not fully paid; an exact final zero is not itself a shortfall. The maximum starting withdrawal is the present-value solution for this horizon and model only.

    Using this calculator

Can I enter my own problem?

Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.

    Are the results exact?

Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.

    Is my input uploaded?

The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
