How to calculate
Calculate each rival’s maximum possible wins and the combined focal wins/rival losses needed to finish strictly ahead.
Pairwise magic=max(0,scheduled games+1−focal wins−rival losses)
Worked example
With a 162-game schedule, a focal record of 90–60 and a rival record of 87–63 give a pairwise magic number of 10 and a 3-game games-behind difference.
Assumptions and input details
One shared schedule length, whole wins/losses and no tied games. Every row is an independent strict-win-total comparison. The largest number among listed rivals is displayed. Head-to-head schedule constraints, incomplete rival lists, ties, wild-card rules and tiebreakers are excluded, so this is not an official playoff-clinch determination.

Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
