Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Sort chores from longest to shortest. Assign each to the person with the smallest projected assigned-time/available-time ratio, breaking ties by current assigned minutes and input order.
Projected workload ratio=(already assigned minutes+next task minutes)/available minutes
Worked example
For capacities 60 and 40 minutes and chores 30,20,15,10 minutes, this rule assigns 45 minutes to Person A and 30 to Person B: both reach 75% of their entered capacity.
Assumptions and input details
One shared planning period, such as a day or week. Up to 20 people and 100 chores. Tasks are indivisible and estimates are entered; skill, preference, age, simultaneous work and fixed assignments are not inferred. This is a transparent heuristic, not a guaranteed optimal or universally fair allocation. Over-capacity assignments are flagged rather than hidden. No messages or calendar bookings are sent.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Calculate how long two constant-rate workers, machines or pipes take together. Include an opposing drain and an already-completed fraction, with a progress graph.
Calculate earliest and latest task times, total slack and critical tasks in a dependency network.
Total dated work shifts after entered unpaid breaks and estimate gross pay at one entered hourly rate.
