How to calculate
Convert the entered basis to grams of solute per litre of total solution. Use solution density to relate solution volume to solution mass, and molar mass to relate solute mass to amount of substance.
g/L=mass fraction×solution density (kg/L)×1000; mol/L=(g/L)/(g/mol)
Worked example
10 g/L at density 1 kg/L is mass fraction 0.01, mass percent 1% and mass ppm 10000. With molar mass 58.44 g/mol, it is about 0.171116 mol/L.
Assumptions and input details
Mass ppm means mg solute per kg of solution. It equals mg/L numerically only when solution density is 1 kg/L. Density and molar mass are required to populate all outputs; they are entered properties, not looked up. Density is 1e−6–100 kg/L and molar mass 1e−6–1e9 g/mol. Solute mass cannot exceed solution mass. Density refers to the final solution at the relevant temperature. Volume percent, molality (per kg solvent), gas ppm by volume and chemical dissociation are different quantities and are not converted here.

Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
