How to calculate
For motion along one axis with constant acceleration, v = u + at and displacement s = ut + at²/2. Displacement is signed. Total distance adds the absolute lengths of travel segments, splitting at a reversal when velocity crosses zero.
v = u + at; s = ut + ½at²; reversal time = −u/a, when inside the interval
Worked example
With u = 10 m/s, a = −2 m/s² and t = 10 s, final velocity = −10 m/s and displacement = 0 m. The object turns at 5 s after traveling 25 m, then returns 25 m, so total distance is 50 m.
Assumptions and input details
Acceleration must remain constant throughout the interval. Time is non-negative. A negative velocity means motion opposite to the chosen positive direction. Standard gravity g₀ is a defined conversion unit, not a claim about local gravitational acceleration.
Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
Choose from 23 length definitions, including explicitly labelled regional measures. Area conversions square the length factor; geometric volumes cube it.
Regional measures are not interchangeable merely because their names look similar. This is a documented selection, not a claim to include every historical unit.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
