How to calculate
Fit the slope and intercept of distance versus elapsed time through two complete comparable trials.
CSS=(Dlong−Dshort)/(Tlong−Tshort); distance intercept=Dshort−CSS×Tshort
Worked example
A 200 m trial in 180 s and a 400 m trial in 380 s give slope 1 m/s and fitted distance intercept 20 m. Normalized model pace is 100 seconds per 100 m.
Assumptions and input details
The longer trial needs both greater distance and elapsed time. Use comparable stroke, pool and measurement conditions. Research commonly uses 200 m and 400 m trials; changing test distances changes the model estimate. Intercept can be negative and is then flagged rather than interpreted as capacity. No prescribed training pace, personal threshold validation, unlimited endurance claim or race forecast is supplied.

Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
Choose from 23 length definitions, including explicitly labelled regional measures. Area conversions square the length factor; geometric volumes cube it.
Regional measures are not interchangeable merely because their names look similar. This is a documented selection, not a claim to include every historical unit.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Summarize recorded one-way pool lengths using an explicit stroke-count convention.
Analyze unequal measured lap distances and actual elapsed splits with a distance-weighted overall pace.
Convert between a 500 m rowing split and watts using the manufacturer’s cubic pace relationship, with a constant-pace distance scenario.
