Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Use bits as the common base, applying 8 bits per byte and the selected decimal or binary prefix.
1 B=8 bit; decimal prefixes use powers of 1000; binary prefixes use powers of 1024
Worked example
1 decimal GB is 1000000000 bytes, or about 0.931322575 GiB. One GiB is 1073741824 bytes.
Assumptions and input details
B denotes bytes and bit denotes bits. Prefixes k, M, G, T, P, E are decimal; Ki, Mi, Gi, Ti, Pi, Ei are binary. Numeric outputs are rounded, particularly for very large quantities, rather than a promise of exact file-byte arithmetic. Formatting, file-system overhead, compression and usable disk capacity are not inferred.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
