How to calculate
Calculate per-plant emitter flow, divide usable source capacity by it to get whole plants per zone, then form sequential zones and per-zone runtimes.
Plants/zone=floor(source(1−reserve)/(emitters×flow)); zone hours=target L/(emitters×flow L/h)
Worked example
100 plants with two 2 L/h emitters each use 4 L/h per plant. A 100 L/h source with 20% reserve supports 20 plants per zone: five zones. A target 4 L/plant takes one hour per zone.
Assumptions and input details
Emitter flow is entered/measured, not predicted from pressure. Every plant uses the same emitter count, flow and target volume. Whole plant groups stay together; source capacity must support at least one. Bed layouts, pipe friction, pressure variation, filters, runoff and plant water requirements are outside the model. Up to 200 representative zone rows are displayed with omitted count. The water target is not chosen by the calculator.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
