Calculation steps

How to calculate
Convert whole outs to fractional innings and keep the supplied league-scale constant and HR/FB reference explicit.
FIP=[13HR+3(BB+HBP)−2K]/innings+constant; xFIP replaces HR with fly balls×entered HR/FB
Worked example
12 HR, 30 walks, 3 hit batters, 100 strikeouts, 300 outs and constant 3.2 give FIP 3.75. With 100 fly balls at 10% HR/FB, xFIP is 3.49.
Assumptions and input details
No league/year constants are fetched or inferred. Enter unintentional walks consistently; xFIP uses your fly-ball definition and reference rate. These are descriptive model metrics, not ERA predictions or player-selection recommendations.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
