Calculation steps

How to calculate
Convert fuel economy into volume consumed per distance, then multiply by trip distance. When a price is supplied, convert the fuel amount to the unit that price applies to before multiplying. US and Imperial gallons are different definitions.
fuel = distance × consumption per distance; cost = fuel in the entered price unit × price per unit
Worked example
A 300 km trip at 15 km/L uses 20 L. At an entered price of 1.80 USD per liter, fuel cost is 36 USD. This is the fuel cost only; tolls, parking and other travel expenses are not included.
Assumptions and input details
Distance is the total trip distance you enter; a return trip is not added automatically. Fuel economy is assumed constant. Price is entered by you: the site does not fetch local fuel prices or infer currency from your location. A blank price leaves cost unknown; an explicit zero price gives zero cost. Currency labels do not perform exchange conversion. Dry gallons are not used for fuel.

Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
Choose from 23 length definitions, including explicitly labelled regional measures. Area conversions square the length factor; geometric volumes cube it.
Regional measures are not interchangeable merely because their names look similar. This is a documented selection, not a claim to include every historical unit.
A US liquid gallon is 3.785411784 L; an Imperial gallon is 4.54609 L. The international mile is 1609.344 m.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
