Calculation steps

How to calculate
Calculate the unrounded 18-hole course value, apply the entered allowance and round the final playing result once.
Course=index×slope/113+(Course Rating−par); playing=round(unrounded course×allowance)
Worked example
Index 12, Slope Rating 113, Course Rating 72 and par 72 give course handicap 12. An entered 95% allowance gives unrounded playing handicap 11.4 and rounded 11 receiving strokes.
Assumptions and input details
This limited implementation supports nonnegative receiving-stroke index and calculated course values for an 18-hole round. Plus handicaps, nine-hole rules, stroke allocation, mixed-par competition adjustments and actual Handicap Index calculation/certification are excluded. Enter the allowance applicable to your event; none is recommended. The allowance is applied to the unrounded course value to avoid double rounding, following the cited USGA explanation.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Apply a user-configured logistic expected-score model to one two-player result.
Find a percentage of a value, percentage change, or the percentage represented by a part. See substituted numbers, steps and a number line.
Enter paired values and weights to calculate a weighted mean. Inspect normalized weight shares, each contribution and a comparison with the unweighted average.
