Calculation steps

Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.

    How to calculate

Separate byte-within-page offset bits from virtual page number and physical frame number bits.

    Virtual pages=2^virtual bits/page bytes; flat table bytes=virtual pages×entry bytes

    Worked example

32-bit virtual addresses and 4096-byte pages give 1048576 virtual pages. At eight bytes per entry the flat table is 8388608 bytes, or 8 MiB.

    Assumptions and input details

Flat fully populated single-level table, not a multilevel, sparse or huge-page implementation. Page size must be a power of two fitting both address widths; table allocation, flags, TLB capacity and actual operating-system configuration are excluded.

    Using this calculator

Can I enter my own problem?

Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.

    Are the results exact?

Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.

    Is my input uploaded?

The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
