Calculation steps

Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.

    How to calculate

Find the least common multiple of the pulse counts for the exact common grid. Place each pulse on that grid and convert positions to seconds using cycle duration.

    Grid ticks=LCM(A,B); cycle seconds=beats×60/BPM; pulse time=cycle start+tick/grid×cycle seconds

    Worked example

    For 3:4 over a 2-second cycle, A starts at 0, 2/3 and 4/3 s; B at 0, 0.5, 1 and 1.5 s. The smallest grid has 12 ticks.

    Assumptions and input details

Two evenly spaced patterns with the same cycle boundary and no swing or tempo changes. Tempo beat means the entered unit; no automatic musical time-signature inference. Pulses 1–64 and 1–100 cycles. At most 200 timeline rows are displayed, including the final boundary, with omitted count disclosed. No sound playback.

    Using this calculator

Can I enter my own problem?

Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.

    Are the results exact?

Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.

    Is my input uploaded?

The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
