Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Add new cash to total current wealth and multiply by each target weight. Subtract current holdings from target values.
Target value=(current total+new cash)×target weight; trade=target−current
Worked example
7000 equity and 3000 bonds, target 60/40 and 1000 new cash require selling 400 equity and buying 1400 bonds.
Assumptions and input details
Long-only targets must sum to 100%. Negative new cash cannot exceed portfolio wealth. Fractional holdings and exact amount trades are assumed; no share-lot rounding, order execution, transaction costs or tax are modeled. Targets are entered choices, not recommendations. No live market data or national tax rules are inferred. Enter consistent amounts in one currency unless explicitly stated otherwise.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
