How to calculate
Use original 1990 Mifflin–St Jeor resting-energy coefficients, then multiply by an explicitly entered activity factor.
REE kcal/day=9.99kg+6.25cm−4.92age+(5 male or −161 female); total estimate=REE×entered factor
Worked example
For 70 kg, 175 cm, age 30 and the male coefficient, estimated resting expenditure is 1650.45 kcal/day. At an entered multiplier of 1.4, total is 2310.63 kcal/day.
Assumptions and input details
The original prediction concerns resting energy expenditure, often searched alongside BMR; it is not a measured basal metabolic rate. Ages19–78 match the original healthy-adult study range. Activity multipliers in the table are scenarios, not assigned lifestyle categories. No pregnancy, lactation, illness, weight-loss deficit, food intake goal or clinical energy prescription is inferred.

Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
Choose from 23 length definitions, including explicitly labelled regional measures. Area conversions square the length factor; geometric volumes cube it.
The 19 mass definitions distinguish avoirdupois and troy measures, metric and regional measures. Japanese kin is 600 g; mainland Chinese shijin is 500 g.
Regional measures are not interchangeable merely because their names look similar. This is a documented selection, not a claim to include every historical unit.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Calculate adult body mass index from height and weight with metric or imperial input units.
Estimate gross activity energy and net energy above a one-MET reference from entered intensity, weight and duration.
Convert joules, kilowatt-hours, thermochemical calories, Btu and separately labeled therm definitions.
