Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Use joules as a common energy base; keep energy units separate from rates such as watts.
1 kWh=3600000 J; 1 thermochemical kcal=4184 J; 1 Btu(IT)=1055.05585262 J
Worked example
1 kWh is 3600 kJ. One thermochemical kilocalorie is 4.184 kJ and 1000 small thermochemical calories.
Assumptions and input details
Calorie and kilocalorie use the thermochemical definition; a nutrition Calorie commonly denotes a kilocalorie, so choose kcal for that quantity. Btu uses the International Table definition. US and EC therm definitions are listed separately and are not silently equated with 100000 Btu(IT). Signed energy changes are allowed; no dietary target or fuel heating value is inferred.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
