How to calculate
Hold unit contribution margins at standard values so mix and total-volume effects add to the full volume variance.
Mix=Σ(actual units−actual total×budget share)×standard margin; quantity=Σ(actual total×budget share−budget units)×margin
Worked example
Budget 100/100 and actual150/50 with margins10/30 give mix variance −1000 and zero total-quantity variance.
Assumptions and input details
Equal product lists, nonnegative quantities and positive budget total. Margins may be signed. Price, cost, market-size and exchange-rate variances are outside this bridge.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
