Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Move the decimal point until the absolute coefficient is at least 1 and less than 10, then multiply by the appropriate power of ten. Round to the selected significant digits. Zero is displayed with exponent zero.
number = coefficient Γ 10^exponent
Worked example
0.000012345 = 1.2345 Γ 10β»β΅. At three significant digits it rounds to 1.23 Γ 10β»β΅, or 0.0000123.
Assumptions and input details
Scientific input such as 6.02e23 is accepted. The tool formats numbers; it does not infer measurement uncertainty or the original number of significant figures from trailing zeros. Inputs are limited to finite values up to 1e100.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Enter a chemical formula and mass or amount of substance. Find molar mass, moles and particle count with an element-by-element breakdown.
Add, subtract, multiply or divide fractions and mixed numbers. Follow exact fraction steps, simplification and a number-line diagram.
