How to calculate
Sum the paid amounts in integer minor units. Divide that total by the entered share weights, round down each share, then distribute leftover minor units to the largest fractional remainders. Compare each paid amount with its allocated share and match debtors with creditors.
Net balance=amount paid−allocated share; sum of allocated shares=sum paid; transfers balance each person
Worked example
Alex paid 60, Blair 30 and Casey 0 with equal weights. The total is 90 and each owes 30. Casey pays Alex 30; Blair needs no transfer.
Assumptions and input details
Enter 2–30 unique names, nonnegative paid amounts and nonnegative share weights. At least one weight must be positive; weight zero means no share of the expense. Use one currency throughout and enter actual paid amounts including any agreed fees; no currency conversion or tax rules are inferred. Paid amounts must fit the selected 0–4 decimal-place precision without rounding. Weights accept up to six decimal places. Tied rounding remainders are resolved in input order. Settlement matches debtors and creditors deterministically; it does not promise the fewest possible transfers. Names are plain labels, and inputs stay in your browser.
