How to calculate
Express the same whole-object temperature difference divided by heat-transfer rate in K/W.
R in K/W = value × kelvins per interval × seconds per time unit / joules per energy unit
Worked example
1 K/W is approximately 0.52752792631 °F·h/Btu(IT). A K/kW is 0.001 K/W.
Assumptions and input details
This is whole-object thermal resistance, not area-specific building R-value or RSI in m²·K/W. Keep the object, boundary temperatures and heat-flow convention fixed. Temperature intervals use 1 °C=1 K and 1 °F=5/9 K, without the offset 32. Btu uses the International Table definition; calories are thermochemical.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
