How to calculate
Calculate the energy increase from usable battery capacity and the change in state of charge. Divide by grid-to-battery efficiency, then divide grid energy by average wall-side power. Apply the entered price per grid kWh when supplied.
Battery energy=capacity×(target SOC−start SOC)/100; grid energy=battery energy/efficiency; time=grid energy/average wall power
Worked example
A 60 kWh usable battery charged from 20% to 80% gains 36 kWh. At 90% efficiency it draws 40 kWh; average 7 kW takes 5.7143 hours. At 0.20 per kWh electricity costs 8.
Assumptions and input details
Use usable capacity and an expected average charging input, including vehicle limits and taper, rather than assuming a charger nameplate rate is sustained. Actual time varies with state of charge, temperature, vehicle and charging controls. The efficiency applies to grid energy reaching the battery; do not subtract it twice. Targets cannot be below the start. Blank price means cost unknown; no tariff, session fee, parking fee or tax is supplied. This is an energy scenario, not vehicle-specific charging control.

Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
SI prefixes are explicit: for example, milli means one thousandth, micro one millionth and kilo one thousand. Changing a unit changes the interpretation of the entered number.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
