How to calculate
Normalize textile mass per area to grams per square meter with ordinary avoirdupois ounces.
1 oz/yd²=(453.59237/16)/(0.9144²) g/m²
Worked example
10 oz per square yard is approximately 339.057475 gsm. A 1 m² swatch at that areal mass weighs about 339.057475 g.
Assumptions and input details
oz/yd² refers to one square yard, not one running yard of a roll. Roll width is not assumed. Areal mass alone does not determine fabric thickness, drape, stretch, fiber quality or garment suitability. Ounces use the avoirdupois definition, not troy ounces.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
