Calculation steps

How to calculate
Recover the circular arc from span and rise, add leg allowances for hoop stock, and divide the bed into equal intervals no longer than the entered maximum.
Radius=(span²+4rise²)/(8rise); arc=4radius atan(2rise/span); hoops=ceil(length/max spacing)+1
Worked example
A 1.2 m span and 0.6 m rise form a semicircle of radius 0.6 m and arc 0.6π≈1.88496 m. A 5 m bed with 1 m maximum spacing uses six hoops.
Assumptions and input details
This circular low-hoop model supports rise no greater than half span, from shallow arc through semicircle. Legs are additional hoop stock and do not enlarge the above-ground cover arc. End and side cover allowances are entered dimensions. Fabric drape, joints, hoop deformation, wind/snow loads, anchorage and structural suitability are not assessed. The diagram uses equal x/y scale; no instructions to install a structure are inferred.
Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
Choose from 23 length definitions, including explicitly labelled regional measures. Area conversions square the length factor; geometric volumes cube it.
Regional measures are not interchangeable merely because their names look similar. This is a documented selection, not a claim to include every historical unit.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
