Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Calculate the heart-rate reserve and apply the selected percentage convention to the entered lower and upper percentages.
Reserve-based rate=rest+p×(maximum−rest); percent maximum=p×maximum
Worked example
Entered maximum 190 bpm and resting 60 bpm give a reserve of 130 bpm. Entered 60–80% reserve values are 138–164 bpm; 60–80% of maximum is 114–152 bpm.
Assumptions and input details
Percentages and maximum are entered by you; this page does not estimate maximum from age or assign recommended training zones. Ranges are arithmetic comparisons, not exercise clearance or clinical guidance. Medication, arrhythmia, illness and measurement error may make percentages unsuitable. Inputs must have maximum above resting heart rate.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Estimate gross activity energy and net energy above a one-MET reference from entered intensity, weight and duration.
