How to calculate
Use the ring’s wire-centerline diameter for circumference, subtract the entered removed gap length, then calculate round-wire volume and mass.
Centerline length=π(inner diameter+wire diameter)−gap; aspect ratio=inner diameter/wire diameter
Worked example
Inside diameter 6 mm with 1 mm round wire gives aspect ratio 6 and centerline circumference 7π≈21.9911 mm before any removed gap.
Assumptions and input details
Ideal circular rings and circular wire, based on finished measured dimensions. The removed gap is centerline length, not a chord opening or a mandrel allowance. Material density is entered, not selected from a guessed alloy. This does not model winding helix, springback, saw kerf beyond the entered gap, closing deformation, strength or suitability for a chain weave. Counts up to 1e9; input and output length definitions remain explicit.
