Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Evaluate parentheses first, then powers, then multiplication/division from left to right, then addition/subtraction from left to right. Unary minus applies after a power: β2^2 means β(2Β²). Parenthesize the negative base when that is intended.
Parentheses β powers β multiplication/division β addition/subtraction; powers associate right to left.
Worked example
3+2Γ(5β1)Β²=3+2Γ16=35. By contrast, β2^2=β4 and (β2)^2=4. The expression 2^3^2 means 2^(3Β²)=512, while (2^3)^2=64.
Assumptions and input details
Use +, -, *, /, ^ and parentheses; Γ, Γ· and the typographic minus are also accepted. Multiplication must be explicit: write 2*(3+4). Individual numeric literals are at most 1e6 in magnitude, with up to six decimal places. A fraction such as 1/3 is entered as division. Variables, functions and scientific notation are not supported. Each evaluated exponent must be an integer from β12 to 12; 0^0 and zero to a negative power are rejected. Limits: 200 characters, 100 tokens, 80 operations, and 40 nested parentheses/unary signs. Exact numerators and denominators are limited to 1000 bits each.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Every supported arithmetic operation uses exact fraction arithmetic. The decimal approximation is rounded; the displayed evaluation trace gives the operation order.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Add, subtract, multiply or divide fractions and mixed numbers. Follow exact fraction steps, simplification and a number-line diagram.
Expand (ax+b)(cx+d) using four products, or factor a monic quadratic xΒ²+Bx+C over the integers. See how the middle terms combine.
