Calculation steps

How to calculate
Use an angular center interval of field of view times one minus overlap. Round the required interval count upward and center the resulting rectangular direction grid on zero.
N=max(1,1+ceil((sweep−frame FOV)/(frame FOV×(1−overlap)))); covered=FOV+(N−1)step
Worked example
A 60° horizontal frame, 180° sweep and 50% angular overlap need five columns: center step 30°, total coverage 180°.
Assumptions and input details
Angular overlap differs from pixel overlap, especially near wide-angle edges and poles. This rectangular planning grid is not a spherical footprint model, lens projection, stitching result or advice on a panorama-head rotation center. Supplied field of view must match actual camera orientation. Limit 1000 frames; long coordinate tables show the first 199 and last row.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
