How to calculate
Add quilt perimeter and entered extra run. Find the fewest equal full-width strips whose joined run covers that requirement after one cut-strip-width loss per diagonal join.
Net binding run=n×usable fabric width−(n−1)×strip width; fabric length consumed=n×strip width
Worked example
A 100×150 cm quilt plus 30 cm extra needs 530 cm. Five 110 cm strips of width 6 cm give only 526 cm after joins, so six strips are required, consuming 36 cm along the bolt.
Assumptions and input details
Straight-grain full-width strips, not continuous-bias cutting. One 45-degree join is modeled to consume exactly one strip width of run; trim or joining conventions can differ. The cut strip width is entered directly, not automatically derived from a folded binding width. Usable fabric width must exceed strip width. Extra closing/corner allowance is entered once; no universal allowance or shrinkage factor is prescribed.
Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
Choose from 23 length definitions, including explicitly labelled regional measures. Area conversions square the length factor; geometric volumes cube it.
Regional measures are not interchangeable merely because their names look similar. This is a documented selection, not a claim to include every historical unit.

Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
