Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Assign each resident an equal part of shared area, add each room’s private area and allocate rent proportionally; allocate utilities by residents.
Room effective area=private area+shared area×room residents/all residents
Worked example
With private areas 20 and 30, shared area 40 and occupants 1 and 2, rent of 2400 splits to 888.89 and 1511.11. Utilities of 300 split to 100 and 200.
Assumptions and input details
2–20 rooms with positive areas and whole occupant counts. Every area must use one consistent unit. Rent and utility totals have at most two decimal places; largest fractional remainders balance each set of room shares exactly. Room amenities, unequal shared access, lease obligations and individual preferences are not valued. Per-resident amounts are averages, not a settlement calculation.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
