Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Read the entered decimal as integer digits and an exponent. Scale to the requested decimal position using integer arithmetic. Apply the selected rule to the exact remainder. Restore the decimal point without binary floating-point rounding.
Scaled integer division → selected remainder rule → decimal placement
Worked example
With two decimal places, 2.675 rounds to 2.68 and −2.675 rounds to −2.68 under the half-away rule.
Assumptions and input details
At most sixty entered digits, exponent magnitude at most sixty, and decimal places from minus six to twelve. This rounds decimal positions, not significant figures. Trailing zeros show the selected precision.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Write a number in normalized scientific notation, choose significant digits and inspect its coefficient, exponent and rounded decimal value.
Add, subtract, multiply or divide entered decimal measurements with exact rational arithmetic and operation-specific significant-figure rounding.
Compare a measurement with a reference or calculate symmetric percentage difference between two values.
