Calculation steps

How to calculate
Multiply DC nameplate kW by entered equivalent full-sun hours per day and period days. Apply one combined loss factor and divide the output between self-consumption and export.
Energy=kW×peak-sun hours/day×days×(1−loss); value=self kWh×import price+export kWh×export credit
Worked example
5 kW, 4 peak-sun hours/day, 30 days and 20% combined loss gives 480 kWh. At 60% self-consumption, 288 kWh avoids imports and 192 kWh is exported; prices 0.20 and 0.05 give value 67.20.
Assumptions and input details
Peak-sun hours are equivalent irradiance hours, not daylight duration. Enter a plane-of-array, period-appropriate estimate; no location or weather is fetched. Combined losses should include the effects you intend to model, such as inverter conversion, temperature, wiring and shading. No separate second efficiency factor is applied. Clipping, hourly load matching, storage, degradation, tax, fixed fees and installation cost are not modeled. Blank required prices keep total value unknown. This simple energy balance is not PVWatts.

Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
SI prefixes are explicit: for example, milli means one thousandth, micro one millionth and kilo one thousand. Changing a unit changes the interpretation of the entered number.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
