Calculation steps

How to calculate
Convert percentage grade to rise divided by horizontal run. Find the belt angle from the grade tangent. Resolve traveled belt distance into horizontal and vertical components. Divide vertical change by time for average vertical speed.
Horizontal=belt/√(1+g²); vertical=belt×g/√(1+g²)
Worked example
A belt distance of 1000 m at 10% grade gives approximately 99.503719 m vertical change, rather than exactly 100 m.
Assumptions and input details
Constant grade and calibrated belt distance are assumed. Negative grade gives descent. This is geometry, not outdoor-equivalent performance, calories or a training recommendation.
Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
Choose from 23 length definitions, including explicitly labelled regional measures. Area conversions square the length factor; geometric volumes cube it.
Regional measures are not interchangeable merely because their names look similar. This is a documented selection, not a claim to include every historical unit.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Find percent grade and angle from rise and horizontal run, or solve a missing rise or run. Mix length units and inspect a labelled elevation diagram.
Find pace, elapsed time or distance from the other two. Compare minutes per kilometer and mile, inspect split times and estimate constant-pace finish times. Enter speed directly to convert treadmill speed into pace.
Estimate observed session sweat rate from body-mass change, measured drinks, urine and elapsed time.
