Calculation steps

    How to calculate

Invert draw-in and finishing retention to recover reed width and round warp ends upward. Invert woven-length retention and warp take-up, then add each item end allowance and one fixed loom waste.

    Reed width=finished width/[(1−draw-in)(1−width shrink)]; warp/item=finished length/[(1−length shrink)(1−take-up)]+2×end allowance

    Worked example

With finished body width 40 cm, sett 5 ends/cm, no shrink/draw-in and no extra ends, use 200 ends. One item with 1 m woven length, 5 cm unwoven allowance at each end and 0.5 m loom waste needs 1.6 m/end, or 320 m yarn. At 100 tex, mass is 32 g.

    Assumptions and input details

Every percentage has its reference length stated on the field; take-up is a reduction from straight warp length, not an additive allowance on cloth length. Extra edge ends are outside calculated body width. Unwoven end allowances are entered straight warp lengths without further shrink modeling. Fixed waste is charged once per end for the complete multi-item warp. No weft yarn, material catalogue or guaranteed finished dimensions.

    Unit definitions

Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.

Choose from 23 length definitions, including explicitly labelled regional measures. Area conversions square the length factor; geometric volumes cube it.

Regional measures are not interchangeable merely because their names look similar. This is a documented selection, not a claim to include every historical unit.

    Using this calculator

Can I enter my own problem?

Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.

    Are the results exact?

Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.

    Is my input uploaded?

The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
