Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Apply the same shipping threshold to the current and proposed goods subtotal and compare final spending.
Order total=goods+[goods<threshold ? fee : 0]; change=proposed total−current total
Worked example
A cart of 90 with shipping of 8 costs 98. Adding goods worth 20 reaches free shipping but raises spending to 110, an increase of 12. Exactly 10 extra would cost 100 if such a qualifying purchase were available.
Assumptions and input details
Use the store’s eligible subtotal after any relevant discounts, in one currency. Equality qualifies for free shipping in this model. The entered shipping fee is otherwise fixed; taxes, exclusions, memberships, shipping locations and item availability are not inferred. A mathematically cheaper order is not a recommendation to buy unnecessary goods.
Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
