Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Express each direct or reciprocal count in grams per 1000 m, then convert from that linear mass.
tex=denier/9=decitex/10=1000/Nm; tex=453592.37/(840×0.9144×Ne)
Worked example
20 Ne means 20 hanks of 840 yards per pound. That is approximately 29.5270624 tex or 265.743562 denier.
Assumptions and input details
The stated count refers to the complete yarn being compared; enter a resulting count rather than an unparsed 20/2 ply label. No twist take-up or automatic ply correction is inferred. English cotton Ne is not worsted or linen count. Yarn diameter, knitting-weight categories and material interchangeability are not determined.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Plan warp ends and yarn length from finished dimensions, explicitly defined retentions and loom allowances.
