Calculation steps
Work through one step at a time or reveal the complete calculation. The steps use your current inputs.
How to calculate
Count every footfall from both feet. Convert elapsed time to minutes and distance to meters. Divide footfalls by minutes for cadence. Divide distance by footfalls and time for step length and speed.
Cadence=60×footfalls/seconds; step length=distance/footfalls
Worked example
1800 footfalls in 10 minutes give cadence 180 steps/min; over 2.5 km, average speed is 15 km/h.
Assumptions and input details
Averages over the entered interval. A two-footfall stride is distinguished from one step. The result does not prescribe cadence, diagnose gait or account for pauses unless included in elapsed time.
Unit definitions
Unit selection is independent of language. Each selector contains only units for its physical quantity. Calculations use defined base units internally.
Choose from 23 length definitions, including explicitly labelled regional measures. Area conversions square the length factor; geometric volumes cube it.
Regional measures are not interchangeable merely because their names look similar. This is a documented selection, not a claim to include every historical unit.

Using this calculator
Can I enter my own problem?
Yes. Replace the example values with your own inputs. The result, calculation steps, tables and applicable diagrams update from those inputs. Blank or invalid values clear the result; example values are never silently substituted for missing inputs.
Are the results exact?
Results use floating-point arithmetic and displayed rounding. Read the formula, assumptions and any stated data precision before interpreting the result.
Is my input uploaded?
The calculation runs in your browser. No account, file upload or external AI service is required. Inputs are not saved between page reloads.
Find pace, elapsed time or distance from the other two. Compare minutes per kilometer and mile, inspect split times and estimate constant-pace finish times. Enter speed directly to convert treadmill speed into pace.
Calibrate average distance per footfall from a measured course, then estimate distance and speed for a later step log.
Estimate observed session sweat rate from body-mass change, measured drinks, urine and elapsed time.
